The robbery happened just before 10 p.m. Tuesday at the Pizza Hut on S.C. 153. Pizza Hut employees told deputies that two men entered the restaurant, pointed a “long gun” at their faces and told the workers to give them all the money in the cash register. The amount of money that the robbers got away with has not been disclosed. Sheriff’s spokesman Chad McBride said that one of the restaurant workers injured herself trying to run away either during or after the robbery but she was not seriously hurt. Authorities do not have a good description of the robbers. Authorities ask anyone with information about the robbery to call Anderson Area Crime Stoppers at (888) CRIME-SC or to visit the group’s website at www.andersonareacrimestoppers.com. tiffany necklace silver
McBride said the organization will offer a reward for information that leads to arrests in the case. The amount of the reward was not specified. ANDERSON — A committee of Anderson County Council members said Wednesday night that it might take two months to review resumes and consider applicants’ qualifications before recommending who should become the council’s deputy clerk. The county council’s Administration Policy and Rules Committee met in closed session for about an hour and a half Wednesday night to look at applicants’ resumes, but came out with no decision. More than 100 people have applied to be an assistant to longtime council clerk Linda Eddleman, who is eligible to retire in about a year. Council member Tom Allen leads the committee that reviewed the resumes Wednesday night. tiffany bracelet
Council Chairman Tommy Dunn and council member Eddie Moore are also on the committee. Allen said Wednesday’s meeting was mostly about “culling resumes” and that he hoped that each of his panel colleagues had picked about 20 out of the stack to receive the most serious consideration. Interim administrator Rusty Burns met briefly with the panel during the closed session, but then left the council members to have most of their discussion alone. The deputy clerk’s position is a new one that the council created in approving the budget for the fiscal year that began July 1. The council set aside $25,000 to cover the salary and benefits associated with the job. Dunn said the council committee would take its time before making any recommendations, and that he thought a two-month turnaround would be reasonable. Moore joked that there would be “no kinfolk” hired for the job. mens tiffany bracelet
He was alluding to the recent hiring of Jessica Mulz Cwynar, the new executive director of Anderson County’s animal shelter. Cwynar is a cousin of Moore’s wife. PELZER — For residents in the Pelzer area, God’s Pantry Food Bank and God’s Clothes Closet are open to provide help to those in need. Every Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m., the food and clothes bank across from and run by Daventon Baptist Church provides help to the needy. “This is something we’ve had for about a year and a half — we open up and have food for anyone who needs it and we have a clothing bank with clothes for anyone who needs it,” said Pastor Jon Lyles. “Usually it’s people who have been laid off from their jobs or for whatever reason have reached hard times in their lives. …There are people who are in desperate need of help and it’s up to us to meet their needs. We provide that. No questions asked. No embarrassment.

The clothing bank provides those in need with up to four outfits once a month, he said. Donations of food, clothing and cash are also accepted to continue the charity services, Lyles said If you want to make a difference in this country, grab a hockey stick. That’s what Fivehole for Food founder Richard Loat discovered 15 months ago, when he came up with an idea to help struggling food banks. “All people need to bring is a hockey stick and a food donation,” Loat said in between street-hockey games in Edmonton yesterday. “It takes something we all love so much and lets people give back to their community. There’s something about a couple of nets and a few sticks that gets people to come and play.” Since organizing his first donation-based street hockey tournament in Vancouver, Fivehole for Food has gone on to become a corporate-sponsored national tour. In 2010, Loat and company organized street games in nine cities, raising 6,000 pounds of food. tiffany earrings
This year’s tour includes 13 cities and has already shattered Loat’s goal of 20,000 pounds in donations. Loat returns to Vancouver Saturday for a day of shinny on Granville Street downtown and is excited to be coming home. “No doubt Vancouver will be our biggest stop,” he said. “Come out and join us.” The games run from noon to 6 p.m. in the 800 block of Granville Street. HUNCHED forward on bent knees, Bashir Ahmned, 40, looks wistfully through the bars of the food depot gate. A long line of people, many frustrated, some wailing, stretch beyond, all eyes gazing in the same direction - at the sacks of maize inside. Bashir said: "Twenty days it took me to get here, and now this (waiting]." After three days of waiting, he seemed ready to give up, depressed by the knowledge of who gets aid and who doesn't: "Those who paid are inside.

The worst drought to hit the Horn of Africa region in 60 years is forcing Somalis south in search of food, putting pressure on already overstretched aid agencies to process the enormous influx of people coming into Dadaab, the world's largest refugee camp. About 1,300 people are arriving every day, providing business opportunities for those who control access to the maize and flour stores. Aid officials say priority for feeding is given to those with families. But as new arrivals are processed and given an initial ration, access to food can also be bought, it is alleged. "Why are you letting in people with no children?" screams a UN staff member, berating two members of the agency contracted to control access to the depot. "Families only!" By 11am, the depot still has not begun distributing food. By 4pm workers stop, leaving hundreds outside to wonder when they'll eat.

But registration at the camps can take weeks, and malnutrition rates worsen all the while. About one-third of people arriving over the border in Kenya are seriously malnourished, says the UNHCR. In Ethiopia, where two refugee camps at Bokolmanyo and Malkadida have already reached capacity, that figure is closer to half. More than 135,000 Somalis have fled so far this year, says the UN. In June alone, 54,000, sought asylum in neighbouring countries such as Kenya. David Orr, a spokesman with the UN's World Food Programme, said: "They've walked for up to three weeks with little water or food and are arriving in a pretty bad condition." At the hospital in Dagahaley, one of the three camps that make up Dadaab, aid workers struggle to deal with the number of arrivals. tiffany pendants
